RNB fans collectively panicked recently after The Weeknd revealed he may be ready to retire The Weeknd persona following his latest album Hurry Up Tomorrow. The artist, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, hinted in interviews that he feels he’s “overcome every challenge” as The Weeknd and is ready for a new creative era. Thankfully, this doesn’t seem to mean he’s quitting music entirely — more so evolving beyond the dark, mysterious alter ego that helped shape modern RNB over the last decade. So no, we’re probably not losing the music… just maybe the name.
